My Work - Winter Blanket Completed!

Finally Finished my Winter Blanket Project! It was meant for a double bed but somehow it also fits on a queen bed with the edition of the border ^^ It would look good on either size. I have the start of my pillow project in the background to make a decorative back pillow with a brown and blue border... maybe some mini snowflake border.

 Here is the final center piece for the cover after a lot of animals made and trial and error... have some snowflakes and dear and two birds...I actually have white and blue parakeets so these were made to look like them ^^ Also I made a pile of snow at the base under the dear which is fluffy... So there is my 3d applique section of the blanket
 This shows the snowflake border... :)
 There is a close up of the start of the pillow... some snowflaky wintery kind of design... when I finish the pillows I'll post them :)
Final thoughts... this was a great project... I learned a lot from all sorts of stitching and reading symbol patterns because I did so many different kinds of squares and even designed some of my own... it was really fun and worth it... took a long time and a lot of yarn... but it will be forever~ ^^

My Work - Newborn Baby Girl Outfit, Dress, hat and shoes

I saw some cute baby girl dresses and had to try it out! Baby clothes are pretty fast to work up and oh so adorable...

Here is the outfit I came up with.

 Here is the front of the dress with the matching shoes and hat...
 This is the back of the dress with 2 flower buttons and one sewn in with the ribbons coming out...
This hat is completely my design to match the dress ^^ I love it...
 These are cute Marry Jane shoes with little flower buttons on the side :)
 I'm considering starting to sell my work... don't know about the time commitment... what if you get piled on with a ton of orders hehe... After I do a couple more dress, hat, and shoe designs maybe I'll consider it ^^

**~~ Update~~** The dress and shoes are now for sale in my shop https://www.etsy.com/shop/crochelinapatterns with a Video Tutorial!

My Work - 2 Hats for my Mother~

So I was visiting home last couple weeks and thought I'd make some hats for my mother. She likes them to be light and airy because I think most crochet hats are really winter and fall hats... anyways I made these two and I have the patterns for them here as well.

You might recognize this from one of my posts. This pattern came from one of the magazines I posted an I just wanted to try it out. This is the link to the post where I got it from.
 http://crochetpedia.blogspot.com/2013/03/crochet-books-online-accessories-for.html

I used 4 ply yarn and it actually worked out pretty well. I think the pattern is meant for 3 ply though because it didn't have the same look as the picture but I couldn't find any 3 ply black yarn fast...I think it came out more like a french hat hehe But I still liked it :)
 I liked the flower pattern on top especially which is why I tried it in the first place. The holes are great for breathing and since it is only in contact with the head at the sides you really don't feel the hat at all on top! Following the symbol pattern was very easy... I finished the whole hat in a day check out the link I posted above for the pattern for the hat. If you have any questions just post a comment and I'll clarify but I enjoyed making this hat.

 I added this flower on the side because I thought the black hat looked a bit blah... This flower is an adaption I made to some other flower patters I've seen... I think it makes a more unique flower look and doesn't look too girly. You have to change color twice to do this and I sewed in the beads in groups of 3 for the petals and the center beads I had a circular white bead with a hole in it and put a gold bead in the center to give it some color.

I'm just going to write down the pattern for the flower here since it's pretty simple if you have done some flower before.
  1. Chain 10 and slip stitch to form ring
  2. Round 1: Chain 1 and work 16 sc into the ring (don't join)
  3. Round 2: Single Crochet in next Stitch, chain 2, skip next stitch, then single crochet into following stitch. (so after chain 2 you skip the next stitch and then sc in the one after it) (should be 8 loops in the end after you join and end the round)
  4. Round 3: in each of the chain 2 spaces from the previous round do (sc, hdc, sc) this forms the first small petals
  5. Round 4: Then if you want to change colors end your color and turn your work upside down so you are working behind the flower and join the next color on one side of one of the petals behind the first ones like you are starting from the same place just behind them and then chain 5, fpsc into the other side of the petal to make the loop... continue all the way around for 8 chain 5 loops (so basically you are making another 8 loops behind the petals you just made)
  6. Round 5: in those loops work (sc, hdc, 3dc hdc, sc)
  7. Round 6:Change colors again and then work chain 6 loops behind the two petals with fpsc between them
  8. Round 7: then work (sc, hdc, 5dc, hdc, sc) in each of the chain 6 loops
Hope it's kinda clear... anyways any flower would do on such a hat ^^

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This second one I made I designed myself from a picture of a hat in a book requiring a loom... I knew I couldn't make the same look but I tried my best :P
So this is what I came up with  :) I had to use cross stitching thread to get it light enough so there were a lot of ends and it was a bit troublesome but I like how it came out. One color was used to make the hat and then I used a darker color to weave in some of the rows. And a ribbon at the bottom. There is the front and back view. This hat is majorly light like a feather.
 Front and back look
 There's my mom wearing her new hat ^^ so cute!
So I thought I would give you the basic pattern for this if you wanted to try it yourself. This is just for experts really... wouldn't want anyone else to get frustrated because I didn't count stitches you just have to measure on your head.
1. So I started the top with magic circle and 3 rounds of double crochet across
2. Then I added this pattern from open work crochet for a round
I did this basically without the chain at the bottom obviously and just and did the row 2 and 3 to make a round on the hat.
Then I did 2 rounds of just double crochet across and then another 017 round. These 017 rounds I used to weave in the other color and the ribbon.
the bottom I just did chain 5s and skipped 3 stitches (you see what you like) and then did single crochets in each of the loops to create the loopy bottom look)
Finally I just sewed on the button :).
So that is what I was doing last week... try out the hats if you daaare... ^^
My Work - Progress on the Blanket~
Ok so... I have completely changed my mind about the blanket... decided the animals and leaves weren't giving me the look I wanted... also the colors are hard to work with when you are trying to do something springy... so I thought... mmmm... blue... white... leafless tree... WHY NOT MAKE IT WINTER! I mean I did the blanket in the winter so It's fitting ^^ and gives me room to change colors and make a spring, summer, and fall blanket too! muhahahahaha I smell yarn!!!
Note to people wanted to try something like this out... I'd add one more color to this... it is hard to work with 3 colors when you have already used a color for the sky or background so you only have 2 other colors to work on whatever you want to applique ontop... If I do another blanket I will definitely add another color... whether it is to border the squares only or to also be in the squares.
 so... the border has become semi snowflakes and I now have dear and birds around the leafless tree with some snowflake falling... also I made a snow pile at the bottom of the tree!
This picture is my inspiration for the blanket ^^
So here is what the center part of the blanket looks like now...
So I haven't sewn down the deer, snowflakes or the birds... but you can see how it will look... I have put off a bit on the snowflakes because the yarn is so big it is hard to make little snowflakes with 4ply yarn... so I came up with the idea of splitting the yarn into the 4 small strands and using one of those with a 2.25 m hook... So now I need to get that hook ^^ then there will be smaller snowflakes everywhere ^^ When I do it I'll post my pattern design for the snowflakes... It is strange no one is making tiny patterns of snowflakes... everyone wants big ones to hang on the tree ^^
Oh and I also have been adding on the border around the whole blanket you can see the brown I added I still need to add white and the semi snowflakes...here is a picture of it below the next picture... there will be a snowflake for every square around the blanket ^^ This snowflake actually came from the mypicot website free patterns for edging... I just had to change it a big because I felt it was too big especially since it is for lace... imagine using yarn 4 times as thick :P ya you need to adjust the stitches a little I will probably post a video about how to adjust stitches for using lace patterns for yarn.
Oh and this is what the picture from the website looks like before I tried it in yarn. So Instead of doing the first 3 border... I'm doing just the snowflake pattern and will crochet the blanket and the semi-snowflake together ^^
Anyways this is what is happening with the blanket... just have to make more semi snowflakes and mini snowflakes for the applique center and sew everything in ^^ Fun fun project... crochet is so relaxing... love it ^^
My Work: Is it Obvious why all the posts have been animal appliques yet??
So I've been making appliques for my blanket... so far I've made a tree... squirels... owls... and birds. This squirrel applique I actually made up the design by looking at one selling on etsy :P so... not sure if it's ethical to tell you the design.... maaaybe....
The blue one I made first... it was a bit taller than I wanted and the tail was too round... So i made the white one... not sure if a blue squirrel works anyways looks kinda funny right? I think I'm sticking with only putting on the white one...
So I have a whole bunch of owls here... these are "Elizzza13" design for owls that I posted before on the Applique Bird and Owl page. I miiight put the blue and white one or the white and blue on in the center of the tree trunk... and make a knot in the trunk... so he's sorta in the knot of the tree... pretty cute...
 These birds I posted the design for. I made up a design for the wings I guess I'll post later. Not sure if these are toooo boring... They need eyes... I don't know the solid color wasn't really working for me so I made the  next one.
 So I stole the wings of the white one and made this one... it looks a little sloppy with all the changes in color... i need to just fix the neck where it should be blue and it's kinda white... I don't know... does that look nicer? Originally I was planning on having a white and a blue bird... so it's either I have two 3 color birds and make the next one with a white head and blue tummy... or just stick with the two above... still haven't decided...
Oh ya and here's the tree... making it wasn't thaaat hard.. but it is all improv... you can't plan it expect for sketches... you just have to increase and decrease the stitches till you find something you like...
My Work- Granny square Blanket With Applique Tree and Animals
 After placing the squares in a million different designs I came up with this design so I started to sew the squares together.
 Here I've sewn all the squares together. The center white squares I'm going to put a tree and animals on it to make a center peice... so... it is the size right now that it could fit nicely on a double bed ^^ from sofa pillow to double bed blanket :P projects always tend to get bigger with me somehow :P
Right now I just finished the Tree! You are probably wondering what happened to the owls...:( I removed them... I tried to embroider the tree but it shifts the crochet too much so I made my own tree applique and sewed it on top! Looks much nicer now... I think the owls might go in a knot in the middle of the trunk now... we will see ^^
My Work- Granny Squares
So my living room is brown and blue and beige so I wanted to make something maybe a pillow... or a table runner... something to match...The first thing I saw online of free patterns was granny square patterns from "50 Fabulous Crochet squares"  if you go to the link below there is a preview with some free patterns. I did the first three squares from the patterns there!
So I got hooked on making granny squares so I looked on youtube and found "Elizzza13"'s videos and she has so many granny square videos as well as many other decorations and knitting videos... I consider her one of the masters she has like 300 videos on youtube. Thank goodness I can speak some German because a lot of her videos are only in German even though lots of her videos are also dubbed in English. Anyways the next 3 patterns were from her. They were of course modified by me so that they became the same width but these were from her videos ^^
 This granny square I found online called "On the Huh" square I found the written pattern here online written by "tiggerbeehttp://tiggerbee.blogspot.com/2010/01/on-huh-crochet-square.html
 This square is made up of three things... First it is a basic crochet block and the video tutorial is here made by "Crochet Geek" if anyone is interested. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLJRfHRMPgU
Then the Owl Appliques made by "Elizzza13" and I sewed them in.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XT45-HLVSM
Then I embroidered the branch and leaves over the square which is why it is a little not so squarish... but I think it turned out pretty cute ^^
This square I designed from seeing a blanket with a similar pattern and it was pretty cute but I couldn't find a pattern anywhere so I just came up with one. I will probably post a video on how to do this square soon :)
 This last square is designed by me. Haven't really named it yet... mmm... looks like tentacles...maybe tentacle square. Anyways, I did take a video of me making this and I'm going to post it on the Crochetpedia channel on youtube soon as well.
By now I've made so many squares I just decided to make a blanket...
My Work - Hats and Baby Clothes ^^
So here is my first crochet project ever :P... Wanted to make a hat...I will tell you between you and me that it did not turn out how it was supposed to :P It was supposed to look like the black hat below :P but I thought the hat was small so i kept increasing until it turned into a french hat so i kept decreasing at the bottom :P No matter how ugly your first project is you always have an attachment to it! ^^ At least it turned out to be wearable!
So this next one was my second try at a thick yarn hat... they are so simple and fast love them... this time it worked and I added a brim even so ya improving :P
 Here was my first 4 ply yarn hat and yes it takes sooo much longer than thick yarn because there are at least twice as many rows and columns and this had front post stitching so it was more complicated then I wanted but it worked out :)
Ok so by now I designed this next hat ^^ Summer hat. I made one similar for my mom with the same yarn and colors and it was a bit longer a hat. After making that one I didn't have enough yarn to make this one as long but it is still really cute ^^ and I loved the flower and the wavyness.
 Then I decided to make some baby clothes ^^ this is all with 3 ply yarn... I found out that babies are not as small as the sweater I made... sooo... guess it can go on a doll ^^ but the hat and shoes turned out really cute!
